Magazine without Images

In this first year course every student was asked to design a magazine or small book without the use of images. Chosen subjects could be related to every day life or personal experience. The number of fonts were limited to five. An important aspect of the brief was to experiment with typography which can take on the function of images and communicate on a pictorial as well as on a textual level.

The students explored a broad range of subjects ranging from home cooking, dub music, baseball, flat sharing to menstrual cycle diaries. Overheard conversations, nonsense text messages and the world of social media seemed to be dominant subject which led to another course in the next term: 'Facebook Analog'.
